Sunroof gasket/seal sticks

My sunroof occasionally makes a loud klunk/pop noise when I open it.
I've been trying to figure out what it was and yesterday I saw it.
It seems the gasket/seal is sticking.
So, on days when I use it alot, it stays loose so no noise.
But when it is closed for several days and then I open it, it pops as the glass moves.

So, thinking back, the only time I cleaned the open sunroof, I ran my MF towel with TR or NL around it. I think it was TR.
Is this sticky?

What is the correct product to use on gaskets and seals?
I remember on a former car, they said to put silicone on them.
But I think I used WD40, I really don't remember.

Besides the sunroof, there are the doors and trunk.
I would like clean but most importantly is keeping it working properly.

I've been using both TR and NL for a while now and have never had that problerm. My sunroof seal gets an application of TR at least once a month and it's never left it sticky. Does yours feel sticky or tacky to the touch?

My guess would be that it's just starting to dry out a bit, and that's your sign to reapply the product of your choice. Either TR or NL should work fine.

The car is two months old.
Drying out that bad?

Perhaps "drying out" was not quite the right way to word it... What I meant was perhaps the product you put on there is weathering to the point that it makes the rubber seal stick to its mating surface rather than slide.

Is it sticky to the touch? If so, then just hit it with some NL to take away the stickiness and clean it up. If it's not sticky to the touch, then it's probably only sticking to the surface that it mates to, whatever that might be (plastic, painted metal, glass, I don't know exactly where this seal is). Might also have something to do with heat if it only does it after it's been sitting closed for a while. Just throwing out some ideas.

I'd just run over it with a quick wipe of NL and see if the problem comes back after a while.

I do not think WD-40 would be good on the soft rubber seals..it may soften them..I am not sure...I would clean them with some dilluted APC and treat them with a dedicated rubber product....something that is good for rubber..I use Meg's 38 and it works great...or the Gold Class Trim Detailer..or PB's Natural Look....or Lexol...just to name a few...the solvents in WD-40 may make the rubber tacky..I am not really sure...so best to go with a rubber product
