Washing in the Garage

Who washes their car in the garage? I explained this to a co-worker who purchased my old car and he seemed baffled at the thought. I have been washing my car in the garage for years. He claimed that water would get everywhere. I told him it`s just water and everything will dry.

I wash in the garage, but not with a hose. I don`t want the garage walls to rot. Are you saying that you use a hose in the garage?

I use NXT soap and water, in the QEW method. Pretty soon I`ll be ordering QEW though.

No, never with a hose. I use NXT soap as well and I find it really sheets off the paint well when water is poured from a bucket. Water never gets on the walls.

If my truck fit in the garage I would do a QEW in there.

Protectall Quick and Easy Wash. It`s a soap that doesn`t require any rinsing. So basically it`s good to use when you can`t use a hose.

Most of the mobile guys use it, so that they don`t need to use a hose. I use the same method as QEW so that I can wash my car in the garage during the winter. It keeps me out of the wind, and I can heat the garage up a little bit too.

How do you do the QEW method with nxt?? is it just as effective as regular washing?

I always wash in the garage, always did even before I had a garage *built for* detailing. Heh heh, I don`t think I`ve washed outside in thirty years. It`s not like water goes everywhere, just gotta take some care with it.

For those without a drain in the garage, how do we control all that water especially when using a foam gun?

Do you have a leaf blower and an arsenal of squeegees to clean up with?

Guess I`m the wrong guy to ask, I`ve always had a floor drain. This just points out how clueless I can be about the challenges some people are facing.

If the slant of the floor is right, a squeegee should be OK, but you sure wouldn`t want to have water pooling someplace where it could cause damage. Guess I`d use a wet/dry vac with a "wet floor" nozzle.

Using QEW allows me to wash vehicles in the garage anytime of the day or night without a hose rinse.

The garage floor "should" be angled towards the door if it was laid right.

While I don`t have one, there are these mats you can buy to lay down on the garage floor and they hold water so it can be collected (wet/dry or something similar).

My garage isn`t "finished" so I don`t hose the car in there cause the dry wall will rot. I QEW in there or spray the car down with a 2 gallon sprayer and wash it that way.

When I use the pressure washer, I first blast the car right in front of the garage, pull it in and soap it up, the back out run the pressure washer at the lowest setting so the water sort of comes out like a hose with no nozzle to rinse. Then pull it back into the garage for drying.
