1Z polishes preventing polymer bonding?

Do the carnuba waxes and other gloss enhancing chemicals in 1ZPP and MP prevent polymers (specifically #20) from bonding properly to the surface?



Quoted from the 1Z site, referring to MP: "Contains a combination of premium white carnauba wax and polymer waxes for durable protection with exceptional depth and gloss". I know from researching that #20 contains light cleaners which clean just enough to allow it to bond. So the question is- will #20 bond to a surface prepared with PP and MP?

i always spray with 50/50 isopropyl alcohol solution in between each of the 1z polishes to be extra sure the sealant will bond

Thanks Bill, I sort of figured that would be the way around it, however, I am really trying to avoid having to wash and dry the car again. So back to the question: Does it bond?

yeah it should bond especially if you used the alcohol after you polished

Really depends on the polymer you are going to use. Some have so many solvents in them like 1Z GW that they will cut through most anything that`s on the surface. Some are pretty picky like SG or Zaino and need a clean surface prior to application.



I`ve not used #20, so I can`t comment on its application, but like BillD suggested, a quick wipedown with 50/50 IPA/water should suffice and should only take 5 minutes or so.

When one does this 50/50 wipe down is it basically just done like you were QD`ing?



Kinda mist it on the paint and then wipe till dry?

Ok so spraying the paint down with the alcohol/water mix doesnt sound too bad. But does it strip the paint of all the stuff that makes it look so good after 1Z products? So would it be counterproductive to apply 1ZPP and MP, and then spray it down with the alcohol?



Basically what I`m trying to figure out is it better to use 1ZPP and MP and then #20, or use DACP and #9 and then #20. I already have PP and #20

All you would be removing is the wax and oils from the Polishes. You wont be removing the surface leveling.



I am just guessing here but if #20 would bond over #9 I wouldnt see why it wouldnt bond over the 1Z products.

The purpose of a polish with fillers is generally to make up for whatever defects it could not remove. If you want to maintain the look these types of polishes provide you`ll have to find a sealant, I guess like Unreal says, #20, that is compatible with them or apply a traditional wax.

I don`t know how much different #20 is to NXT but I`ve put that over 1Z MP before. :nixweiss

I`ve put different things over 1Z polishes. When it doesn`t work, you know it- the LSP sorta smears and never really seems to dry. Try your #20 over the 1Z in a small area and see how it works. If it doesn`t, no big deal. You can clean things up with the alcohol spritzer or just repolish the area with the 1Z.
