Opti-seal gurus? got a question:P

Hello fellas, so I took delivery on my opti-seal and I already got 2 cars to detail. One is not a problem as it will be a full correction. However the other is just a wash and seal. I don`t quite like those for obvious reasons, but my customers like it so whatever. My questions are as follow

#1 if there are no corrections done to the car do you recommend applying opti-seal? The lady has taken excellent care of the vehicle as she waxes it regularly but is disappointed w the people she used to take the car to. Car has a few swirls and is a pearl white.

#2 how long should I wait for a second application of opti-seal? how long does optiseal take to cure? I`ve heard about 12 hours? I will have the second car for about 4 days and I`m planning to have at least 1 coat of opti and top it off w supernatural.

1. - optiseal will not make the swirls worse, nor will it hide them. It can be used over waxes and still provide good durability & protection. It looks nice on white as well.

2. - Wait about 2 hrs and you can put on another coat, although probably 8 hrs or so would be optimum.

Im planning to clay the car as she is a very potential customer so I will clay the car for free. I was wondering since the bottle says to prepare the paint. Thanks

As of the other car I think I will let it "cure" over night due to the time I have on my side in order to ensure full chemical bonding, but thanks for the help!

....the average wait time seems to be around 30 minutes when applying a 2nd coat simply to ensure adequate coverage. While perhaps not fully cured at this point, it is dry and the next application will help provide a complete, uniform layer. I believe Scottwax doesn`t even wait that long in most cases (more like 15 minutes). If you were going to top it or add consecutive coats (layer), then I would probably give it the recommended 12+ hour cure time (although personally, I donâ€™t see the need beyond 2 for coverage).

btw, I believe Optimum says to "prepare the paint" due to the simple fact that OS is a "what you see is what you get" product with no ability to hide blemishes whatsoever (as mbo pointed out).

Good point, yeah the second layer of OS was just for future reference. But I want to treat it that way for the Supernatural to have a more wetter look not synthetic as I`ve heard. I can`t wait to use this product though

....I just started playing around with OS myself in recent months. In my case, I`m just an enthusiast who does the occasional side job for close friends/family (as well maintaining my own vehicles). I still enjoy detailing but I`m more about efficiency/less effort in some of my product choices these days. The WOWA aspect of sealants like OS & UPGP is obviously an attractive option for someone like me. I figured I at least needed to try them out after reading all of the positive reviews.

I never clay if I`m not at least using an AIO with at least a PC. How long to wait depends on weather, outdoor or indoor. If I`m in the shop, I will wait about 45min-1hr to apply the 2nd coat. The 2nd coat is only used to assure even coverage. It doesn`t add to how long it last.

in my opinion- while using opti-seal in that scenario seems to be limiting the potential of the detail, atleast it will help prevent additional damage. it`ll trap anything that would traditionally etch.

if she `waxes` it like you mention, wash it with dish soap at the minimum. if you are feeling ambitious, like you said claying might be a good idea after said wash, to give you the best possible surface considering the circumstances.

Not sure I`d top it, really looks wet on its own. I had a customer who was watching me apply OS to his 335 coupe and he said it looked like I was wiping on "wetness".

Yeah, OS isn`t like the traditional sealant. OS won`t leave a synthetic look, but I`m sure it will look great if you top it with SN

Even though the vehicle is well maintained, it feels rough. I doubt that the place where she takes it clays it, so I want to take advantage of it as well. Also if I go w the OS I don`t want to seal the paint w contaminants embedded. Thanks for the suggestion:xyxthumbs

Thats the plan, remove the most that was applied and start "fresh". Thanks!

As of a second coat on the other vehicle it will depend on how well it looks or I apply it lol, and same w the wax. However if i do decide to do a double coat then i won`t use the wax at all. I can`t wait to get the car though :chuckle:

I just did a Benz (metallic white) not a swirl on it just washed CGWG , buffed with Opti Poli(thanks Scottwax) then 2 coats of OS customer did not me to touch it with wax!! When I qouted him he insisted on wax!! He said it didn`t look that good when he bought it. I tried a test spot with wax and saw no difference in wetness. Good luck!!

Are you saying don`t top OS with a wax?

So I finally have time to take post it. Here are the results on the Jetta I put the Optiseal and SN. I liked it however I had a few problems when applying it. I really had a hard time seeing the optiseal been spread around. Any suggestions on how to apply it, I mean a certain light perhaps? but here are the results
