I purchased Westin Black Powdercoated Nerf Bars this winter. I often see older ones with lots of rust, etc. What can I used to protect this finish? It`s not a glossy, shiny finish. It`s more of a dull, matte black. Recently, I used 303 on it. I initially used 303 for the plastic step pads, and figured "what the heck -- use it on the whole bar". Can I use regular wax, or spray wax even though it`s not a gloss finish? Your input is appreciated.

Yeah, I was thinking the Klasse twins too, they never change the appearance of satin black paint/powdercoating for me, just shine it up a little (as opposed to *glossing* it). Haven`t tried AW yet but that oughta work fine for maintenance (I use FK425 after each wash).

Try a small area first though, just in case your stuff is different from what we`ve used it on.

The problem with tube style step bars is that they get literally sand blasted by the debris in the road picked up by the tires and it wears away the finish and causes them to rust. I don`t think a wax/sealant will avoid this, but it will help preserve the non-damaged finish.

I would try regular treatments of AW or Optimum Spray Wax. Neither will change the finish to gloss but your main problem will be the blasting from the road debris as noted above.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I hope to pick up some AW at my local Carquest (for other opbvious reasons as well)... I might end up going with some splash guards as well, but I never really like the looks of them.

Thanks. I recently used DG 108 (same as 101), and plan to top it with AW tonight. The 108 worked great on the non-glossy surface. I`ve been using 303 or Stoner Trim Shine on the plastic steps/end caps.
