I will be painting & clear coating an aftermarket hood very soon along with re-painting my front bumper cover. With every paint job I`ve done in the past (around a dozen) I`ve used 3M Perfect-It Rubbing Compound followed with 3M`s Machine Glaze. I`ve decided that I`m going to open my mind up to something different & I wanted to see what you guys recommend, & what your procedures are? It will be done with a rotary with & I have a variety of buffing pads.

Give Menzerna Powergloss or SIP a try.

Just a heads up - be careful buffing the plastic bumper cover, they`re not as forgiving with heat as metal hoods are. I found out the hard way.

    Shoot 3 coats.

    Sand 1000 > 1500 > 2000 > *3000 (Meguairs Unit grit)

    1. Compound w/wool pad - Meguiars M105 from 600 - 1000 rpm, light pressure...

    2. Polish w/foam pad - Meguairs M205 from 600 - 1000 rpm...

    3. Finish w/foam pad - 3M Ultrafina from 600 - 1200 rpm...

You`ll want to read up on the indivual products. Especially M105 as it seems to work

best when you FULLY saturate the pad with compound and work at lower rpm`s.

I`ll guess you`re using the 3M black waffle pads...

I`ve had very good results with Menzerna Power Gloss, then follow up with Menzerna Intensive Polish.

I have had good results with the Meguiars 105 on a foam pad followed by Megs 205 on a foam pad also.

M105 would probably be the fastest.

M105 or Merzerna Power Gloss on orange pads... of course followed up by your favorite medium/finish polish.
