I`ve always been using Meguiar`s Gold Class car wash to wash my cars since I began detailing. However, I`ve never known how much soap I am really supposed to use in ratio to the water. I find that after rinsing the car and beginning to use my wash mitt on my 3-4th passes (dunking into second bucket, squeeze, and back into wash bucket), the soap no longer "covers" the surface on the first pass. The soap solution begins to separate, like water beads separate, as opposed to leaving a layer of soap on the paint. In this case, I need to give it a few more passes to cover up the surface with soap. To be honest, I`ve never really measured how much soap to water I use, so I can`t really give an exact measurement. What dilution do you guys use?

I guess you could just measure it using a small container once, and pour it into your bucket, noting approximately how much soap you used. Next time, just pour the same amount.

    Jusy eyeball it.

I use GC all the time. I transfer it from the big jug into a Rubbermaid water bottle that holds like 24 oz. I just flip the top and squeeze and a small "glob" comes out. Each "glob" is about an ounce!

Best way to eyeball and ounce is to fill up a shot glass just below the rim. That`s an ounce. So when you tip the jug, let it pour for a half second and pull back and a "glob" will fall in and you have an ounce! :woot:

Do a "glob" or an ounce for each gallon.

I put something crazy like 20 capfulls in a 5 gallon bucket. I didn`t have any metric measuring devices so I just went all out. The water in the bucket was orange.

Gold Class is 128:1 dilution. So 1 oz. per gallon. I have a mark on my bucket for 3 gallons of water, and a plastic cup with a mark at 3 oz. of soap.

I use a small plastic measuring cup, and add 3.5 oz of GC to 3 gallons of water.

I also use an OXO measuring cup that I got at the supermarket. I like it because it allows you to read the measurement from the top, looking down into the cup. I also have a smaller one for measuring smaller amounts.

Bed Bath and Beyond also has them and I sometimes see 20% off coupons that come in the mail, so you can get it at an even better price.
