tour bus ????????

i got a call yesterday by a man who owns a tour bus business and bought a used bus......he removed all the other companys logos but the letters are still noticeable ( it's not adhesive outlines it's smooth as can be) and the sign shop told him to have someone compound the bus before bringing it in......so if any one has ever worked on something like this and has some advice on what to do(tricks or tips) and what to expect with a buses finish

It sound like the paint has faded or oxidized where the letters were not applied. The lettering blocked the sun from the paint below it, thus it isn't faded like the rest of the bus. To fix ut you'll have to cut through all of the 'dead' paint. Hopefully it is just oxidation and you can use a paint cleaner to fix it up. If not you could try a compound and see where that gets you...

I've never done a tour bus before so I can't help you with specifics about its paint...

Do you have a rotary or PC....preferable the rotary?....to tackle this by hand would require ALOT of time and might not get the results that you are trying for

This sounds like a job,Charge what you think your time is worth. Before you give him a price i would do a spot to see how hard it is going to be to get it right.

Is it gel-coat fiberglass or painted ??

i have a udm..........it is paint on the bus........i never give prices on big jobs until i'm done so i will make it worth my time i'll take pics of the job and post up

It's not always just that the surrounding areas were being subjected to the elements and the lettered areas were not. There are other causes such as a chemical reaction between certain adhesives and certain finishes. So you might see a shadowing or discoloration no matter how much buffing you do. This happens more with gel coats than painted surfaces but they both are susceptible.
