Motorcycle paint concept - 02-26-2007, 05:51 PM

I'm excited to share this picture with you guys. This is the picture my painter sent me asking if this concept would be something I'm interested in. He said to change the orange to black and imagine blue flames on the black that is being torn away. I'm way excited. It's a theme that will go over the fenders and side covers as well.

Is that going to be smooth or what!? I can't wait. I don't even know what I'll use to shine something like that up with. I guess I'll just use whatever I would normally use for black and then just assume it will make the rest look great as well. Anyway, he just sent me that picture today as an example of what he wants to do and I had to tell someone.

Trendy and would certainly take talent to do but I would prefer simple and understated.

It's a little busy for my taste, but the quality looks great! It looks like your painter really knows how to use an airbrush.

Yeah would definately look better with the Black vs. the orange (rust) or any dark color for that fact, even a midnight blue would work well.

Re: Motorcycle paint concept - 02-26-2007, 08:17 PM

I would do it blue, but the flames are going to be blue so that wouldn't work. I'm not going to have as much showing under the paint on my design I think. In fact, i was thinking of having the appearance be more of a ripped look than a peeling paint look. He originally said something about having it painted grey and then the background of the rips would be black with blue flames escaping the tear. I sort of liked that idea. This is going to be for him to advertise his skills too, so I'm going to have to make some concessions on the design I think. Still, busy or not, it is going to be one cool looking bike that is going to get some attention.

This is an engine cover pic from someone at GAOC

So black or a midnight blue could work

Sweet. Yeah, now just imagine that paint job if the added effect of the paint job being stripped away to reveal the metal underneath. That's the look I think he is going to be going for with mine. He likes to do flames and said he would do realistic blue flames.

Stop dilly daddling and get that thing painted! We want a finished product!

Because I've somehow missed it throughout all your posts, what bike do you have?

It's just a '95 Yamaha Virago. Nothing too fancy. I just wanted something small to commute back and forth to work. I've got pictures in this forum.

Not the fanciest bike around but it looks pretty sharp! The new paint job will really set it off.
Only thing I'd change on it, depending on the aftermarket that's available for the bike, change the exhaust. If you can find something that flows a bit better with the bike it'd look really sharp

I actually like the exhaust. It was one of the reasons I went with this one instead of some of the similarly priced Shadows and such. Aftermarket doesn't offer much anyway. The Jardine pipes that are available look pretty much exactly like the stock ones. They just sound different. I leave for work at 4:30 in the morning, so I really don't need 200 db pipes waking the neigborhood up or anything. lol I kind of want to work on restoring it to OEM specs, minus the paint job of course. It's a fun little bike that gets me around town just fine. I'll get an 1100 or something if I ever get the desire for long road trips or significant freeway driving.

As long as you like the looks
I wouldn't want something terribly loud either, but I don't like bulky exhaust. My dad's Vegas came with some bulky mofo's stock, really took away from the looks of the bike.
If you ever move up to something larger look into the HD Sportsters', when my dad bought the Vegas I rode his old 1200S around for close to a year, I loved riding it around. Fairly small, more than enough power for me and it was still comfortable. I wish I wouldn't have let my permit expire, otherwise I'd still have the bike

Anyway, enough hi-jacking for now. When do you plan on having it painted? Or did I miss that?

Re: Motorcycle paint concept - 02-27-2007, 11:08 PM

Probably the third week of March. That is fine for me since it is still snowing like a mofo around here anyway. The bike should be all painted and cleaned up just in time for the warmer riding season to start.

My mom's husband has the 1200 HD sportster. Harleys really aren't my thing. I'm more comfortable on a Honda or a Yamaha. I was thinking about getting a larger displacement Vulcan to have around for longer rides and for cruising the canyon. I just can't see the value in paying ten grand more for a bike just so I can say it is a Harley. I'm not much of a biker. I just happen to ride them.

im more of a fan of simple and understated... except for realistic flames with skulls ect airbrushed in but that should look great...i ride crotch rockets (04 yamaha r1) but the exhaust looks ok to me
