Thumbs up Pads, their use and colors - 07-14-2004, 11:10 PM

Well here's a starting list for those who get like me when people start talking about different colors and types of pads....it's no where near complete, but i started the research, now everyone else put your 2 cents in:-p

Lake Country:
Orange Cutting: Designed for moderate oxidation and scratches. Use with medium cutting prdoducts: (paint levelers and compounds)

White Polishing: Designed for light oxidation and surface swirls. Use with light cutting products: (polishes, swirl removers, pre-wax cleaners)

Black Finishing: Designed for final surface protection products. Use with waxes, glazes, paste waxes and polymer sealants.

The Edge DA (Dual-Action) Heavy Cut Black Foam Buffing Pad

The Edge DA (Dual-Action) Medium Cut Yellow Foam Buffing Pad

The Edge DA (Dual-Action) Light Cut Green Foam Buffing Pad

The Edge DA (Dual-Action) Blue Foam Polishing Pad

The Edge DA (Dual-Action) Ultra-Fine Foam Finishing Pad

Lake Country:
Orange Light Cutting Foam 6.5"- Firm, high density foam for scratch and defect removal. Features patented "polish pocket" to control splatter. Use with microfine compounds.

Yellow Cutting Foams 6.5"- Use this pad to apply compounds or Polishers like pre-wax cleaners, mostly used on older vehicles

White Flat Polishing Foam 6.5"- High absorption foam formula for the application of waxes, polishes and sealants.

Gray Finishing Foam 6.5" - Composition is firm enough to withstand added pressure during final finishing to remove buffer swirls. Use with machine glaze or finishing polish. Features patented "polish pocket" to control splatter.

Meguiar's Soft Buff Foam Yellow
Polishing Pad 6.5"

Meguiar's Soft Buff Foam off-white
Finishing Pad 6.5"

I always called the Meg's Finishing Pad Beige or Tan. :dunno

One thing that would eliminate a lot of the confusion is to refer to the pads by their designated use rather than by color.
Cutting Pad, Polishing Pad, Finishing Pad pretty well conveys the message for me. Obviously the light, medium, and heavy cutting pads would require some description for those that use them.

Charles

Like having a Lake Country user tell somebody to use a black pad for finish work, and they go out and buy a black Edge pad.

How about a list of relabels of the pads? I know Edge makes pads for a lot of other companies, and Car Quest foam pads are Lake Country.
