All Microfiber Failing the `CD` Test

I`ve been hearing about the CD test for a while now. I really never tried it myself. So I took all my microfiber towels, applicators, etc and tested them. Surprisingly, they all scratched. So should I really take this into consideration and stop using these microfibers. What are the better ones out there. Thanks in advance.

While the CD test isn`t a direct "apples-to-apples" comparison, it is a good way to weed out the microfibers that have a chance of scratching. Keep in mind that CD`s, just like clear coat on paint, can vary significantly in hardness. Some are soft (very very soft) and scratch easily while others are harder and don`t scratch.

What are you currently using , microfiber wise?

I`m currently using some 3M, also some generic colored microfiber that you can pick up at many sites. They are yellow with black silk edging. And some bright green ones. I think `microfiber tech` makes them or `star fiber`, I really don`t know and don`t want to bash anyone. You never know these days anymore ha. I can post some pictures of them if needed. They all scratched, that`s why I`m a little worried. I`ve properly washed them and stored them. Most of them are brand new and only have be washed once to get them ready for use.

Just like Todd has mention, it`s only a guide to go to, but the real test is the clear coat/paint of the vehicle. Remember that these crazy soft clear`s out there ,that they will swirl very easy and drive one nuts.

I like the Deluxe 600s, but my favorite are the Supreme 530`s.

The 3m cloths are very rough. I picked some up a few years ago and they went rig to kitchen duty. Not for paint. No way.

That`s true, it seems like all the new paints rolling off the assembly line are super soft.

Not recommended at all. They are really pricey too. Not to mention the 3M logo print scratches like crazy. Engine towels for me now.
