How To: Wash Your Vehicle In Winter Months

    Sully’s Detailing How To Article

How To: Wash Your Vehicle In Winter Months

    Items Needed:
    • 2 Five Gallon Buckets with Grit Guards
    • Cobra Microfiber Mitt
    • Autogeek Chemical Resistant Pressure Sprayer
    • Optima No Rinse Wash and Shine or DP Rinse less Wash and Gloss
    • Cobra Waffle Weave Microfiber Towels

    Steps:
    • Add 2.5oz of DP Rinse less Wash and Gloss or Optima No Rinse Wash and Shine to the Autogeek Chemical Resistant Pressure Sprayer and add water till it is completely filled.
    • Now completely spray the vehicle down with this mixture to loosen all the salt, dirt, and grim.
    • While the vehicle is soaking in this mixture Add 4-5 gallons of water into your 2 bucket. In one of the buckets add 3oz of DP Rinse less Wash and Gloss or Optima No Rinse Wash and Shine (One of the buckets is your wash bucket and the other is your rinse bucket)
    • Now dip your Cobra Microfiber Mitt into the wash bucket and wash your vehicle from top to bottom with little pressure (let the wash solution do the work).
    • After your have washed one section of the vehicle, now take the Cobra Microfiber Mitt and thoroughly rinse it in the rinse bucket.
    • After you have fully washed one section of the vehicle dry it with your Cobra Waffle Microfiber Towel.

Note: Some section might take more than wash application to remove all salt, dirt, and grim. Also After you have washed all the paint you can use the same solution to wash your wheels and tires. Also it would be best to wash the vehicle inside a garage.

Must be hell dealing with all of that salt and snow in south florida...
"One day you will have to stop being a Muppet...So take the hand out of yer butt and walk for yourself."

Claying does not mean "High end". It means quality/caring. So would actually learning a trade instead of "Hey I can wash and wax a car, so I`ma gonna be a detailer."

Lived in Canada/Boston for a year playing junior hockey. Canada wasn`t that bad being that they use more sand then salt, but Boston sucked

Nice write up - would be 100% better with instructional photos.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.

Yeah - because you need to snow to illustrate a six-step process of how to do a waterless wash.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.

It may not be known to some of you southerners, but many of us northerners have heated garages where we can practice the conventional car wash all winter long.

And I like living in the north. Where else can you wear a sweater to a July ballgame?

The roads are so bad here that you need more than a DP soak before washing.
My first step is use a hose or the pressure washer and blast all the salt and sand off before doing anything else.
And yes when the wind chill is -50 you wash in a heated garage.

Exactly how I do my washes, do that in summer as well. I like pulling my car in the garage and wash it. worked great when we had our water shortage and people were being ffined washing cars.
