Best cleaner wax - 03-16-2010, 10:42 PM

I am sure this has been covered but wanted to get some fresh views. I am doing more express details and wash/waxes and am used to doing a two step or at least a clay before applying a wax or sealant. When doing the express or wash/wax I am looking for an easy to use with decent protection. I have used many different products including NXT, Automagic, mothers, additional mequiars. I do not want a QD or spray wax, but all other ideas are welcome. Thanks for your time!

Hi Scott,

One of my personal favorites is XMT 360 by Pinnacle. It's a cleaner but also a light swirl remover and a sealant.

Another good choice is Poorboys Polish w Sealant and Mothers has a cleaner wax that is very easy to use to.

Easiest to use by hand would likely be Mother's FX SynWax, I think.

Are you doing this by hand or machine? If by hand, you may want to look at one that fills instead of removes marring. Clearkote's Vanilla Moose is pretty nice in this regard.

If you are using a machine, then, as Dwayne mentioned, something that can fix as well as protect would be better. PB's PwS does this. Doesn't have to be used only in the shade.

Hand or machine?

Are you topping this with a wax or sealant?

All In Ones have really become great over the course of the past few years. I am really fond of Poorboy's Polish with Sealant or Polish with Carnauba - Blue. Optimum's Poli-Seal is also great, but I think it lends itself better to machine application. All are available in large sizes which are great for professional use.

Thanks for all the responses! I will be using a Porter Cable DA. I will try the pws, or the pinnacle. I have never been fond of Mothers but haven't tried their synwax. What is DG501? I'm a slow learner with the abbreviations.

I really like Meguiar's #66. I've also used XMT 360 a few times and like that also. In fact I just did a quick claying and followed that up with XMT 360 wax on my truck this past week.

Another vote for DG105. If you have a Car Quest Auto Parts, they sell DG OTC. Very inexpensive and durable.

i liked the mothers liquid carnauba cleaner wax ... used it the first time i waxed my dads BMW and was very good in my novice eyes ...

havent tried any other type of "cleaner wax" since i am now into more thorough proper waxing with non cleaner products that have more durability ...
