16 passenger needs cleaning help - 03-15-2010, 11:56 PM

Hello all, I had a customer ask me about cleaning seats and the interior roof. It has never been clean, it does not look dirty because of the color. But because the need for cleaning it is a little stale.

Here is one problem they use it seven days a week, day and night, to transport people back and fourth. So when I clean it the dry time needs to be as short as possible, but because it's never been clean I really need to extract the dirt. Which will take some time to dry, but it will be clean. If I do it this way how much should I charge.

Problem two I can do a top cleaning with spray foam cleaner, or AP, now dry time will be quick. It won't be as clean as if with the extractor, and how much should it charge for this method.

Last but not lease the interior roof what do I use to clean this area.

I know it's alot of info. but thanks for your help.[IMG]

I do 15 pass vans and shuttle buses on a regular basis for a dealership that sells huge nightmares like that. I might be able to help. As for the headliner, if you use an extractor on it its gonna be in the floor by morning. I use a dry foam cleaner from Car Brite called Xtra Duty. Otc products like tuff stuff or blue coral will usually do the trick just fine. The seats are a differant story. Dry foam will dry the fastest but won't come nearly as clean as they would if they were extracted. Keep in mind there are a ton of seats and scrubbing them with foam to get them clean enough would take forever. Plus with so many people in and out of it everyday, it wouldn't be a bad idea to extract for sanitation purposes. As for price, it really depends on what you try to make per hour and if your doing a full interior detail or just the headliner and seats. The headliner shouldn't take 30 minutes tops. The seats might take an hour or two maybee. I hope this helps a little.

Never done one, so I don't have a clue as to the amount of time you'll spend. I do agree with the thoughts that overwetting and heat are bad ideas for cloth headliners. I've used the Blue Coral foam product for years with good results, though never on that large of an area. I have read somewhere recently where someone had some material discoloration issues with Tuff Stuff after some previous successes. Don't know if it was a reformulation issue or just a different material. The point being, as always test a small area before proceeding.

If you have a (or some) fan(s), air circulation will assist in the reducing the dry time.

That's going to be your best bet for drying. That is, unless you want to pull 16 seats out and sit them somewhere in the sun for a couple hours. Good luck with it and don't let a big vehical like that overwhelm you. Just work one section at a time. Its no differant than any other vehical. Just bigger.

Oh man I'd try to tell them they really need to get a back up for a day so you can really clean it for them. However, if they cannot then just hit up the spots for them. Maybe show them a sample of a back seat so they can see how much dirt you suck out of that seat with an extractor - then you'll have them sold.

Claying does not mean "High end". It means quality/caring. So would actually learning a trade instead of "Hey I can wash and wax a car, so I'ma gonna be a detailer."

I would use
DP interior cleaner
DP Carpet cleaner
Megs apc

Tools 1'' boars hair brush
Brushes for the carpet or get the 2 different attachments for your da they make a carpet and upholstery one
Extractor (hot water)

Anything you do to clean the seats will take a couple hours to dry. Try leaving the windows down and uses fans. Also use a shop vac or the extractor dry to remove as much water as possible
