Favorite presoak? - 02-11-2010, 09:58 AM

With all the salt and slop on the roads here my truck is super nasty, What is everyones favorite prewash(presoak) if you use any at all. I was thinking of a mixture of bug squash to cut the grime before i put a mitt on the paint.Any thoughts?

I use Bug Squash either out of my foam gun or through a 2 1/2 gallon garden sprayer ... usually either full strength or 50/50 depending on the amount of salt and how long it's been on the finish

That is what I use. I put an oz. or two in my foam gun (hose end Gilmour) along with my car wash soap. Coastal Eddie does something similar only uses APC. His posting prompted me to begin making that addition to my mixture.

Bug Squash.

I don't believe in grit guards.

Are APC and Bug Squash a little harsh on the protective sealant/waxes? I mean, if dish soap can strip wax off, I'd be a little worried about APC...
Maybe it would be safer with a longer soak/double soak of just a good car wash soap prior to washing?
Layering wax and sealant is hard work!

I would guess that at the strengths PB mentioned above, then yes you are going to probably suffer some degradation if not out right removal. At the strength I use, I don't worry too much but then I might also be following up with either polish and seal or just adding more protection. And IMO, everytime you touch your finish you will degrade the protection, if not from the chemicals use, the mechanical action of wiping/rubbing the surface.

I like to presoak my truck using a Foam Gun and the DP Extreme Foam Formula Auto Shampoo. I also use the same product to wash my truck.

At my rate of use, I might have to include the remains in my will. We don't have the "love bugs" of FL or the black flies of the Michigan Upper Pennisula (is that the right area?).

If you have a CARBRITE distributor in your area. i use their product "WHAMO" I cut it 30/70 water and spray it on the entire surface.let it dwell for 2-3 mins and then wash it down and rinse off. Works super on a white vehicle with that ground in dirt and bugs etc. then clay bar..................it will be in the wrapper
