Car wash foam gun

I'm thinking about adding a foam gun to my detailing arsenal, I would like to know the benifits from it and some problems I may come across. Also should I buy the air foam gun or the pressure washer foam gun,the water hose one is nice but I'm mobile.

There are a lot of threads on foam guns to read, use the search button. However I have one for the hose and really I don't use it much, you still IMO have to wipe the car down and I don't feel like the foam gun delivers enough soap to the surface. There are others here that love them so don't be swayed by my experience only

I've got the one from ag.

It works well. I use it mostly for "stripping" the car before I do anything to it.

Foam, dwell, rinse, wash.........

Takes too long to load use and clean just a gimmick to play with it has no real value I never use mine.

It is great for wasting soap though.

I am not a pro. I have one and like to apply and let dwell before using two bucket wash method. I think it might help, That being said, time is money to you and thpossible bbenefits dont merit the tine lost IMO.

`This time of year I wash nearly every time I drive my vehicle and I use DP or DG rinse-less wash.
By the time you get the hose out and hooked up to the foam gun and cover the car then clean it out and put it away I will have my car cleaned and you have not started to wash yet.

Foam and suds have nothing to do with cleaning the soap can be made to clean just as well with out suds it is made like it is because most associate suds with cleaning.

Since you are mobile, I wouldn't get an air powered one.
Few things that I do not know.
1. Do you have your own Generator?
2. Do you have your own water supply?
3. Do you have a Pressure Washer?


If you are talking about the Foam Cannon, I have one and use it just about every detail with the pressure washer. It may add 5 minutes to a detail, but I feel it has it's benefits. To me, it feels like my mitt slides easier over the vehicle (more lube) and it helps dissolve dirt as the foam is siting on the vehicle.

I buy my soap 5 gallons at a time. I don't think it wastes too much soap. As far as hooking it up, mine is pretty simple. I have quick disconnect which makes going from the foamer to the pressure washer tip very simple.

If you are talking about the one that hooks up to the water hose, then I don't know cause I haven't used one of those.

Stay away from the the air one if you are mobile.

Thanks for you reply TexasTB, I do have a generator, water supply and pressure washer. Even though I asked the question I felt like the foam breaks the dirt down, and quick connect allows you switch easy from foam to pressure.

I remember purchasing mine from a group buy that Steve at Poorboy's set up. After it came up there was a big stir about extra foaming action. I thought mine foamed enough and did not buy into that particular fad. One of the few back in those days. LOL!

I don't generally pull it out any more. I tend to use S&W or a rinseless wash product because I enjoy that process more than a foam gun wash process. I moved the foam gun sprayer to a different part of the lower shelf yesterday in my garage. It reminded me of the one thing that it has made easier for me. My annual foray into window washing the outside windows.

Another reason to stay away from the air powered one if you are mobile: You will have to run a generator, to run an air compressor, to run the foamer. Too much in my opinion. Thats a reason I don't buy the Tornador tool for interiors, you need a compressor, and it's not worth running multiple machines for one.

agree. i like mine. its just the gilmore one. regular hose hookup. paired with the DP extreem foam soap. this soap was made for this gun!! i still fill a bucket with water/soap. i find it a usefull tool.

I also have the Gilmour hose-end unit purchased via the PB group buy; however long ago that was. I use mine regularly, just about ever wash. Contrary to the opinion of some it is hardly a soap waster IMO. A couple of ounces of soap goes a long way with these. I'll also sometimes add an ounce or two of PB's Bug Squash for a vehicle (like my own right now) which has gone a while between washes. The manner which I use it does change a bit depending on the weather conditions. Sometimes I will go ahead and soap down the entire vehicle before beginning the wash, other times I may work panel by panel. Yes it adds some time to the wash, but I find the benefits outweigh the addtional time spent by helping to prevent (or reduce) time spent on the back end correcting issues related to wash induced marring. If you will be polishing for correction anyway, and the vehicle is nominally dirty then maybe it might be a waste of time.

love mine .. don't sell them anymore but would definitely get one for personal use and for nasty vehicles that need a pre-wash ... depending on how bad it is I will either use Bug Squash or APC , sometime full strength, to strip a vehicle before adding any soap.
