Any other thought to engine detailing? - 05-10-2009, 01:21 PM

I cleaned the engine compartment and used cd 2 and call me nuts, but I really didn't like the look afterwards. I followed the directions on the can word for word, but the residue left on the strut towers and other painted areas was a xxxxx to get off and i don't want to deal with that again. Any other successful options?

My personal vehicles get 303 Protectant used on the plastic and rubber parts and a QD on the metal/painted areas.
FWIW, If you wipe down the CD-2 right after you spray it on, it looks much better. At least it does in my opinion.
CD-2 is not a product that I use very often.
It seems:
Too shiny/greasy
Too much of a cover-up
To tend to spray unevenly (This could be user error)

I think any good vinyl/rubber treatment would work for you. Like most detail products, more is not necessarily a good thing. Try a light coating first. If you think it needs more, you can always add more.

I like CD-2, but you can't skip this step IMO.

Never thought of wiping it down.

Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It's good to be da King !!!

I use Megs Hyper Dressing on engines and I love it. You should try it. I dilute it 4:1 for just about everything.

CD2 definitely needs a good wipe down, I usually let it sit overnight then come back and wipe it down.

I definetly agree about the too greasey, I like a more natural clean look than the covered up look your describing. I'm thinking about using Duponts Teflon tire shine Matte finish. I liked it on my tires, maybe It'll look good on the engine!
