Family Dollar Pump Sprayers leaking - 05-03-2009, 11:06 AM

A second sprayer now leaks in the same molding seam on the bottom.
That's 2 out of 2 from the ones I purchased last year.
One had Poorboy's S&W in it since last May and started leaking in March of this year. The second one had Meguiar's APC+ at 10:1 in it for about 4 months.
Both had the pressure relieved on them after each use.
Right now, I have one that I purchased this year that is not yet leaking, but it most likely will.
I thought maybe the first one was a fluke and a one time thing. I evidently was wrong.
At this time, I wouldn't recommend the ones from Family Dollar to any one. Mine were not only a waste of money, they also lost product and made a mess.
Should have known better.
Buy cheap stuff, you get cheap stuff.

I think Rubber Maid has one and I think I will see if I can find them locally. The idea is great.

I've learned with spray bottles to buy the better ones on the market...I get most all mine at Lowes, Orchard or Home Depot type of stores...I find that I use them much more than the average person would, so you tend to wear them out much faster

Alot of chemicals can deteriorate the seals on ANY sprayer. The best thing to do is to run staight water thru sprayer after each use.

Sorry to hear that Charles. Thanks for keeping us posted. You are talking about the pump up sprayers, not spray bottles, correct?

Yep. I think they were $2.50 last year.

I bought a couple too when I saw them. I had shampoo in 1. Pressure relieved when finished. Pump mechanism still gave out. (Wouldn't pressurize, cylinder had flooded. Can't get it to work even after taking it apart and drying it out. Last possibility will be getting a different washer/O-ring, but if I can't find 1 quick/cheap, it ain't worth the hassle.)

Interesting.
I haven't had a problem with the pump or spray mechanism at all.
They are actually developing a pinhole leak in the very bottom of the bottle itself.
And yes, they were $2.50 last year and are $3 this year.
Big Leeger: I now have a couple of extra pump/spray mechanisms that you are welcome to.
If you want them, PM me.

Thanks sir! But I have 3 more to go through first!

Have you tried spraying some of that "Leakender 2000" type stuff (or even just applying some caulking) to the seam? (If you were bored, of course. For $3, it may not be worth the effort to some people.)

I think I have 6 Dollar General sprayers ($1 each). I have not had any leaking issues. The only annoyance is adjusting the sprayer stream. I have used mostly APC's or ONR in them.

Pump up sprayers of just the regular squeeze trigger spray bottles?

I didn't make my original post clear. I'm referring to the pump up pressurized sprayers.

My family dollar sprayer gave out too.

So now it's on the ones I got from harbor freight.

Lets see if the ones that you pressureize with a compressor or bike pump work any better.

Did the bottle leak or the pump quit on you?

So, it would seem that Family Dollar sprayers show some consistency.
Bottles are inferior, pumps are inferior.
Great combination.
