Nissan 350Z question

I just picked up a 350Z last night - washed it, clayed it and started to experiment on the front end. I wanted to see how PB's Pro Polish would help in removing bugs. So I grabbed a MF and the PP, put a little dab on the MF and started rubbing away. When I was finished with the 6"x6" area, I looked at athe MF and noticed that there was blue paint on the MF.

Why is this happening? AND Am I doing something wrong? Sorry but this newbie has never experienced anything like this before.

i hope the car is blue

was there a lot of paint? could it be touch up paint?

I don't think they are using single stage paint unless it was a repaint

Paint on the towel would indicate some sort of single stage paint or blue tinted clear I would imagine. My first guess would be a repaint of either that area or the entire car.

LOL - the car is Blue. I forgot my camera that had the picture of the towel. I will try to get a hold of my son to email the picture so I can post up.

This morning I went out to the car and took the PP and another MF and cleaned the paint around the rubber moldings on the doors, across the roof along the windshield etc and there was NO blue paint on the MF.

Regarding the front end - I ended up doing an area probably a foot square and the MF had blue paint on it.

I will call my buddy and ask him if the front end was repainted.

funny that a guy called me recently and he had black paint on his towel ... he had just bought a used black Porsche and didn't examine the car closely ... the previous owner had filled in a bunch of rock chips with some touch up paint... when he was polishing, all the touch up paint came off

Well - when I picked up the car last night - my buddy told that he had cleaned the front end with some bug and tar remover to help get rid of some of the baked on bugs. He told me he had to do the front end five times.. OUCH - I told him he should of just left it up to me - because the front ends still had a bunch of bugs on it.

I wonder if this bug and tar remover did any damage??

Do I need to know what brand of B&T remover he used?

I don't think it would really matter ... even if he used something very strong, it should not have removed the clearcoat

that looks like touch up paint because it's not everywhere on your cloth ... try looking for areas that had been scuffed

350Z's are def not single stage. It must be touch up or a repaint.

The rag is not solid because I turn the rag each time I do a new area. Basically those marks are from the 1 foot square.

I just got off the phone with my buddy - this is a 2003 and he bought it new - According to him - he has never had it painted or touched up.

Unless this was done prior to him buying the car.

I've been working on a 350Z as a steady customer for the last 3 years...the car was brand new when I started...these cars are a magnetic for rock chip on the front end...its my guess that your car has either been repainted or its touch-up paint...I would lean on the later of the two..since its only on certain areas...it should be obvious where the touch up areas have been used....

Well - I will have to further inspect when I get home. The area this is from is dead center on the front bumper - I will try the areas in front of the wheels when I get home and see if I am getting the same thing occuring.

My new question is - How do I go about polishing the front end if it is a repaint 9Or touch up paint) - sorry new situation to me

Sounds like the previous owner may have bumped into something and rubbed that area...if its dead center...do you have your plate on the front of the car?

What you are doing with the PP is ok...however to get the bugs off I would use some bug cleaner while washing rather than polish...Then I would clay to pick up as much as possible..then you can use the PP to lightly polish over the bumper area cleaning it up...then head for the LSP
