Wetsanding at panel edges?

Had a little error in judgement backing out of my garage and scuffed my rear fender on the wooden frame od the garage door. Luckily it was such light contact there was no denting of the metal.

Most of the marks clayed/polished out, except for a chip a little smaller than an 1/8" down to bare metal right on the lip and a tad on the underside of the fender.

Trying Langka, but it just isn't doing the trick... so I am thinking about trying my hand at wetsanding. Now all the tutorials/how-to's I've seen deal with chips/scratches that are more or less away from the edge of the panel.

What advice/warnings/cautions are there when wetsanding near/on an edge? I am thinking maybe a higher grit sandpaper 3000+ might be the best route... but I'd like to hear from the pros.

Proceed with caution.
Don't blink when polishing.
Polish at the lowest speed so you can stop quickly if you need.
Try polishing by hand first.
I would start with 2000 paper and work slowly.
You can put a piece of tape over the absolute edge of the panel to try to protect it.

Have you filled the chip in? and if/after you filled it did you sand it and then refill with clear?

I'm not even at that stage yet... just slowly layering the paint up with a tooth pick. My layers are thin, but I want to give them ample drying time.
