Teflon Paint Sealant W/ 5 Year Warranty

I am starting up a detail business that caters to dealers. After much research on the internet, I have found that a good bunch of detailers that use a teflon based sealant that comes with a 5 year warranty. Now I have read much about how Teflon does not adhear to painted surfaces. I have been told that there are many variations of Teflon and that through science they are now able to do so. Thus the 5 year warranty. I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with such products or if anyone has any "scoop" on their durability. The products that I have looked into are TST-5000 and CPC R-2000. Both are Teflon based with the 5 year warranty. They also have a product with the same warranty for interiors.

Any info on these products would greatly be appreciated!

    thanks,

You are right Tassadar. It will last about 6 months depending on conditions.

Every one of those long term sealants I`ve seen require regular maintenance / re-application (something like 6 month intervals) or the "warranty" is void.

My sister worked for a company that made paint sealants,so I had some and I dont think It lasted any longer thananything else . It had teflon in it ! It would look great after you use it but after a couple of months it was gone.

Perma-plate costs your about 600 at the dealer and they claim that it lasts 5 years, but they also sell you the touch kit that you have to reaply every 6 months. Go figure!

That`s like saying these tires will never go flat, but they want to sell you 5 anyway

Hey, I`ve got an idea. Dwayne, since platinum can last 6 months market it to car dealers at $500 and then sell them additional bottles as "touch up" for their customers.

I think all of these things are just ways for dealers to make MONEY! It is just like pinstripping, about $8 for 150ft. $35 for the guy in the back(subcontractor detailer) to put it on, you pay $120! Most people do not even notice.

Supposedly this product needs zero maintenance. The only thing that was said was not to use wax over the teflon finish. It apparently leaves a haze to the finish. I am still looking for someone that has first hand experience with this product or knows someone who has had it on their vehicle. Your guys post so far have been very informative. Keep`em up!

I have used GEM Industries AT-5 which is probably similar (or the same thing in a different container). It was a decent product, but nothing spectacular. 6 months was really stretching it. It was more like 2.

I try, but nevertheless, I looked up a similar products. And it litterally comes with a 5 year warantee. Of course, I wonder what they consider "protection"

i`ve seen paint starting to fail on cars in five years. it`s hard to believe anything could protect that long. seems that there is so many variables to consider. will the cars be garaged, are they in winter climates or do they live in south texas. how does the owner treat the car? hand wash, scratch-o-matics, never washed. how do you know if it`s still protecting after 3 or 4 years...? i`ll have to say i would be a little skeptical...
